Do You Have The Key To Your Tires?

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well.  As doing roadside assistance requires me to change a flat tire at least once a day, there is an issue facing many people who recently purchased a new or used car.  Some people do not know that their tire’s lug nuts are locked by usually one lug nut per a tire that requires a key to remove it.  This can cause extreme frustration by owners when they encounter a flat tire, because without the key, the tire can not be removed.

When you purchase a car, new or used, inspect the tires to see if they have a locking lug nut.  These locks look very different from the other lug nuts, and if you do have them – request the key!  The dealership should issue you the key to your lug nuts so that in the event of a emergency you are able to remove the tire(s).

There are many sources online that give ideas on how to remove locking lug nuts without the key.  Indeed the information may work, but it will damage your lug nut, your stud, and maybe more.  It is always worth the money to purchase the key you need and place it inside your glove box for an emergency down the road.

     I hope this information helps!
